X Kilt in 13 oz material?
I have a line on some polyester cotton twill, but it is 13 ounces per yard. Anyone ever made an X kilt (or any other similar contemporary kilt) in material this heavy? Was it difficult to work with? How did it turn out?

What is your source and how do I get some.
In the early days of Freedom Kilts I found some 14 oz. Bull Denim and made a few kilts from it. They are very heavy, very durable. But my source dried up and have been trying to find some more ever since.
The main problem with fabric that heavy is that you almost have to have an industrial maching to punch through all those layers. Especially when attaching the waistband and going through 10 to 12 layers of pleats, four layers of waistband and four layers of beltloops. Only an industrial machine can be adjusted to have the foot raise the 1/2 inch to get all those layers under it.
Luckily I have 4 Pfaff 138's in the shop.
If you would be willing to share your source perhaps we can make a deal.

For future reference, can someone please inform as to what an 'X Kilt' is? I feel sort of silly not knowing...

First off--may I abbreviate? If not, I will address you as elitekiltedcommando, but typing that gets old fast! Secondly---voila!

This thread linked above tells the story of Alan H and the amazing X Kilt. There are usually several threads lower down in either the DIY or Pictures categories showing what people have done with Alan "X-Kilt" H's design.
It is, in essence, a narrow aproned box pleated kilt design that Alan came up with so we would all start making our own kilts.
Best!

Fit2BKilted, look at this forum, the DIY forum. There are a couple of posts "stickied" at the top. One is about the X Kilt. Look at the very last post in that thread, there are two links to where you can download the 2nd edition instructions.

Also check out the DIY section in the Kilt Information Guides forum

A lot of useful threads have been copied there minus the comments to make them really useful for those looking for instructions / reference material

I'll get in line behind WoBC for that fabric. . . would really appreciate you sharing your source, if appropriate.

Please note that the original date on this thread is back in 2006.
13 oz Poly/Cotton Twill is fairly easy to find. Think a little heavier than "Dockers" pants. ("oh no, Steve said a naughty word".)

But if you can use up 50-75 yards they will usually cut you off that much for an extra fee.
