MUCH better than the "slug!"
Also, thanks for the comment on the X Marks/Trasher combo. I printed pics of both, and think it will work. MAYBE it will be Buffalo and Atlanta for the Cup (we'll be on opposite sides of course)!!
Maybe Buffalo and Atlanta in the Eastern Conference Finals, but not the cup. :-)
The slug is growing on me after watching every game of the year, I did find some vintage sabres patches on e-bay for this kilt though. Just couldn't do the slug on such a nice kilt.
The next sripe should be interesting folks, I will have to splice two pieces together.
My first recommendations, don't try to save $5 on the alternate color fabric, buy four yards like the main color so you don't have to overlap things. As Alan H said you never know where the two pieces will meet mine are meeting at the end of the stripe, so I will have to hide the overlap in a deep pleat.

Stripe two
The second stripe was cut out and I pinned the hems down, repleated the kilt, and pinned down the stripe so that it stays set when I unpleat it again and hand sew it tonight. I am hoping to have the back done tonight, so my wife can press it tomorrow night.
I will then be sewing down the inside of all the pleats, I found in the x-kilt that this really helped. Also it will keep the stripe stable inside the pleats, I worry that since it is just hand sewn that it might come lose.
After that I will have to run to get some navy thread and velcro, then I will start sewing the outside.
First I will do the fell line, I am going to stitch all the way across the kilt this time though instead of the zig zag stitch that is recommended in the x-kilt directions.
After that I am going to wrap it around me and make sure that it fits in the hips. I haven't decided on pockets, but this would be the point I would put the pockets in if desired.
I have a pretty busy week this week, so I don't know if I will finish it by the weekend, but that is the goal. My wife is making cookies all day Sunday, so that may be the day I finish it.
