    David,

I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune. It's rotten to have someone violate your property and privacy.

If it's any consolation, know that the thieves will get their comeuppance eventually. Probably not from you or today, but eventually. And know that they have no friends, no one they can trust, and no life. Even without your airbags, you're much better off than they!

David, I just saw your post, and I can't believe that happened to you and the beloved Freelander. Those jerks! I'll be in Portugal in January/February if you need me to help you look for them. ;)

I finally got my first minor theivery against me this summer when someone broke into my jeep and stole a bunch of stuff I'd gotten in England, and my limited edition Joss Whedon Astonishing X-Men comic book I hadn't even read yet. Sadly, I picture some 10-year-old kid reading my X-Men and listening to the DFA Remixes volume 1, and realize I'm kind of a dork. On further reflection, maybe this wasn't such a bad thing.

Sorry to hear that. Thievery is so annoying, simply because there's nothing you can do about it. Maybe you'll catch them coming back...

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, David. I know from experience, having your house or vehicle broken into feels like you have been violated. Where I live now is a very low crime area, and I've gotten into the (bad) habit of just leaving the keys in my truck when I park it in my driveway.

My insurance will cover any loss or damage to my car 100% if it was in a locked garage at the time. I make it a point to always garage it and lock the door. That way I don't even pay a deductable. If it were parked outside or in a public lot there would be a large deductable. Society sure has changed since I was a kid, and not for the better.

That's truly awful, and unfortunately more and more common.

A companion crime to that is less-than-reputable mechanics replacing airbags with stolen, or "refitted" airbags. They're cheaper for the mechanic, but unfortunately won't open correctly when you need them.

PLEASE make sure you have a reputable business repairing the damage for you.
