Pay Pal Changes??

Here in the UK it is rare that we have to sign when using a card.

Since last February, the vast majority of retailers are on the PIN system for authorising transactions as card companies insist they will not make good any signature transactions that later prove to be fraudulent. They believe that a PIN is better than a signature (which can be forged) although of course if a fraudster knows the PIN it is not complete protection.

This new fangled chip and pin thing is weird!!! I'm just glad I remembered what I set my Japanese credit card's pin as!

We use paypal as a SELLER for a few reasons...
1. It's a LOT harder to get "fraudulent order" through paypal than it is thru a normal CC Processing gateway.
2. It's MUCH cheaper to use paypal from a "small company" standpoint as your credit card processing online. "gateway" systems (shopping carts and credit card accepting systems like you see on major sites like Amazon and stuff) cost MONEY to set up and cost a monthly fee. They take a slightly lower % than paypal, but the monthly charge makes it a bigger hurdle. OR... they do it cheap... they'll set up your site and accept orders FOR you, BUT THEY control your site and THEY advertise on it with other companies ads.
3. We can still accept phone orders!

As a seller, Paypal is pretty easy for us. It is free to use monthly and they provide all of the software and code we need to make it work. All we have to do is maintain the site and they send us emails every time we get an order!

Is it a PERFECT system? No. Is it better (safety and $$$ wise) than the alternative from the seller standpoint (for now)? Yes.

That WAS true for me until my last two Pay Pal purcheses. Something has changed. Pay Pal NEVER gave me the opportunity to select my method of payment. Pay Pal just went and raided my bank account WITHOUT giving me the credit card option.

And, for me, its not "crystal clear"...I get advertisements for their credit card between windows. When I use a credit card they come back with an "are you sure?" window that is preset to click yes, which if I'm not careful would be "Yes, I don't wanna use my credit card" rather than "Yes I wanna use my credit card." I have to THINK BACKWARDS in dealing with them.

I've found them tricky, arrogant, and rude. I have a legitimate complaint and after a LOT of searching just to find their well hidden email system I have to navigate it. Doing all that my response is a "we're too busy" and silence.

A four letter Anglo Saxon word comes to mind.

No clue why...maybe because I'm a most basic user...I don't get those options....even searching diligently for them...sorry.

And, what happened to me is that when making the routine Pay Pal payment for goods, that always before when I got the option for type of payment. As soon as I went into Pay Pal and thought I was moving on through the routine process I'm used to I got an instant return that I'd already made the payment and it came from my checking account.

As I first posted, the problem I'm concerned about is that I don't get any choice anymore. And following the various suggestions offered I've been unable to find a way to rewire my account. Being so locked in I don't see the point in using it again.

After reading the site Rocky suggested I have little hope that Pay Pal has any interest in whatever moneys they make off my occasional transactions.

Ironic. I know Pay Pal and E Bay are the same outfit. I've never used EBay and never plan to for the same reasons...guess I should wise up.

I appreciate your detailed instructions and help. Sadly, it just doesn't work for however Pay Pal has me wired.

My complaint too that if Paypal did offer a choice of payment method they didn't highlight the change before they implemented it. In the past they always used to make an instant payment and paid out from the balance of my paypal account and if there was a shortfall they took the rest from my bank account - then suddenly they decide to leave cash in my account and instead send an e-cheque to the seller. At first they would only give me an automated response but after several e-mails I finally got a reply from a human after about a week which said it was a done deed and would now need to wait till the e-cheque cleared. I've got stuff listed on e-bay at present where I've offered paypal as a payment option but as soon as these are sales are completed I'm out of Paypal too.

If I have a cash balance in Paypal that's the first thing they always go for when I make a payment and when the cash balance is sufficient to cover the transaction the only other option it then offers me is an echeque!
