That is a pity because, strictly speaking, the oblong decorative buckles, or more correctly 'waist plates', are for dress wear with dress sporrans -rather than day or casual wear, as seen here:


For day wear I have a selection of eleven belts in black and brown leather, each with a slightly different single-prong buckle. Here are two of them:



To me, wearing a waist-plate belt as a day wear belt, even with an Argyll jacket, is as out of place as wearing a Prince Charlie with a T-shirt. Not only is it incorrect but it just looks wrong!!
