A while back there was a thread about "occupational kilt pins." I made the mention that if I had an occupational kilt pin, it would be an erlenmyer flask because I manage a laboratory. So, one of our members "Blacksmith" was kind of enough to make one for me. I often wear it with my Irish Saffron kilt. But, I think it will go great with my pending Henderson weathered, box pleat and the brown accessories I purchased from Robin a couple of weeks ago.

I don't have any unusal kilt pins Yet. Still thinking about what I would want. Occupation wise, I am a Locksmith and a Locksmith Instructor. Imade a kilt pin for Dirkskene out of an old brass "skeleton" key.

I really love to see a bit of individuality in Highland dress and if you have an accessory thats a bit different, I'd like to see a photo or hear the story behind, rather than see photo's of mass produced goods What makes your outfit unique???

Repro of the cap device of the 69th N.Y.V.I., the original "Fighting Irish". Unlike the Royal Irish Regiment, this one has no crown.

My caubeen with the harp of Erin.

Repro of the cap device of the Georgia militia, circa 1850. Originally, they had an eagle with wings spread above it, but in 1861 they were broken and filed off.
Set against the Georgia tartan. New Inverness (Darien), GA was the first American settlement of Highland Scots, recruited by Oglethorpe specifically for their skill in guerilla warfare, to serve as a buffer between the Spanish at St. Augustine and the British colonies to the north. In 1742 the Spanish invaded Georgia. At the Battle of Bloody Marsh, the English regiment paired with the Highlanders broke and ran with the first Spanish fusillade. Heavily outnumbered and with their left flank up in the air and dangerously exposed, the Highlanders stood their ground and killed all of the Spanish officers and 30% of the invasion force. Spain never again challenged British hegemony north of Florida, for all practical purposes ceding the North American continent to Britain.
The Georgia tartan commemorates the Highland Scots of New Inverness, and is based upon the Government tartan worn by Oglethorpe's Independent Regiment of Foot, with a prominent red stripe of MacIntosh red for John ‘Mohr’ MacIntosh, one of the founding clan chiefs of the state.
After six generations, this is my district tartan.
