Well, my daughters have been wanting kilts of their own, and when they saw me working on the XKilt this past weekend, they really got excited and want one NOW! So I took the older one by Wal-Mart Saturday while Mommy and the little one were napping and got some fabric. My older daughter picked out the fabric for both of them. Here is what she picked all pleated up and ready to begin sewing the pleats:

And here is what she picked for her sister, who loves Dora. I just don't know what to pleat it to Dora or Boots??

for the dora one, do 3-4 really big pleats, so that you don't have to lose either Dora or Boots

The "bot" is actually a monkey named Boots. Very annoying 'toon.

KCW, do you have any tips on scaling down the XKilt pattern for children?
[I've got a couple of 'honourary nephews' (sons of friends whose parents have decreed that I'm 'Uncle Steve') who keep hinting about kilts, after seeing my Gunn Modern plus full rig at Hogmanay]

 Best regards

Colin, that is an awesme idea! I had not though about that at all, but I should have enough to do that as well.

sorry Steve, I did not make these as XKilts. The first one, seen below, is a knife pleated to the sett (that's how it turned out, not how I planned it). I just split the cloth in half, left enough for an overapron, and began playing with different pleating. For a kitl this small, you can pleat up the whole thing in about 10-30 minutes by using the tartan lines to line it up. But oboy do pleats eat up fabric! I thought a yard would be plenty for my daughters, but I had to splice together a section for the first one.
