Oh, dear. tthe Invisisble Joan has a "Smart" ancestor, which is sept of clan MacKenzie.

This would make the kilt skirt to end all kilt skirts....and I could ATTEMPT a military box pleat kilt for myself....sort of the ultimate kiltmakers challenge.

And about half the regiments of the last 100 years wore KacKenzie, so almost anyone can think of someone to whom they are related, or at know, that would give 'em a good reason for that very nice tartan.

Without a very close look, it looks like Robertson Htg. Mod., too.

Ebay (xsnick) is offering Forbes, Leslie, MacKenzie & Hunting Rose ex MOD cloth at a starting price of around £25 for a 4metre length of double width.

I bought a length of Forbes to try the military box pleat & a length of Hunting Rose because I like the pattern. The shipping costs about the same as the material. (Each piece weighs over 4lb. !!!)

So, for about £120, I got 8 metres of British Army kilt material delivered to my door. That's £15/m., or £13.85/yard.
