With a black kilt the question of a tartan clash shouldn't arise anyway?

McClef, the Stillwater offers the "shadow" tartan---it's a tartan all right, only a solid, if that makes sense. When the light hits it just right, you can see the pattern, otherwise it just looks (in this case) black. I'm not explaining this well, but the coffee will wake me up and then I'll know what I should have said.

I don't mind the concept of the Hunting McLeod scarf and the black shadow kilt. I might object if you threw two strong tartans together, but your SWK is subtle (not unlike myself) and will look great.
Cheers!

Yes I remember now someone posted pics of it and it's very hard to see in many lights.
Still think the chance of a clash would be minimal though.

Thanks gents. I will be wearing a charcoal grey shirt w/black hose and a pea jacket. I am recently kilted, before was just Levi's and tees or uniform, so my accessories for kilting is minimal. It shall be a very long time before I out panache - Panache (if ever) but I do appreciate your input and plan to follow it as budget allows. First though a full on tartan.

I think a tartan scarf would work with a shadow tartan, more particularly so if the scarf tartan includes black. I wear a Dark Island shadow tartan kilt which only shows up in certain light conditions and looks like solid black to most people and in all the photos I've taken of it.

For what it's worth, I think it will look fine. The black 'Shadow Tartan' is plain enough to look plain!!
When it's cold enough for a scarf (not yet this winter, but things they are a'changin' next week according to the forecast!), I wear tartan scarves with my plain kilts, and plain scarves with my tartan kilts - always aiming for good colour co-ordination of course!
The only time I'll wear a tartan tie is with a plain kilt - same principle.
