Stillwater question
Is it possible to sew down the pleat edges on a Stillwater standard like the ones on my USAK casual? I am not a big fan of ironing and was hoping this might help some. Just a thought I am about to order my my first Stillwater, although this has no bearing on my decision I am ordering it either way.
Thanks
John

I don'tpersonaly have one but I don't see any reason it can't be done. A little time with a sewing machine (being careful to stay straight and near the fold) or more tome with a needle and thread.

I am quite ignorant when it comes to PV kilts, so please indulge me here.
Are you indicating that they tend to lose the sharp creases? I have several wool kilts, and I've never yet ironed a pleat. But then I haven't washed one of them either.
This is a bit off topic, but I do know for certain that I will never dry clean one. I'll do the bathtub wash, hose down, hang dry, and iron routine rather than let one of my kilts get into the hands of someone I don't really know. And I do believe that the dry cleaning chemicals will take the oils out of the wool, and a' that and a'that.
I've washed wool bonnets many times with no deliterious effects. Just clean bonnets!

different materials have different properties... about losing pleats when washed:
Poly COTTON kilt will lose their pleats after each washing and must be re-ironed. Acrylic kilts keep them pretty well. Poly Viscose keeps them pretty well also. Do you HAVE to iron a PV kilt when it comes out of the washer and dries? No. Should you to "neaten it up a bit"? Probably.
The reason you don't have to iron your wool kilts... do you wet wash them or dry clean them? if you WET wash your kilts (hand wash with woolite and lay flat to dry) like I occasionally do, you WILL need to iron those pleats back in.
I hate ironing and started sewing down the edges of the pleats on our casual kilts so I never had to iron them if I didn't want to... that's what he's referring to. Hope that helps to clarify!

You certainly could if you really wanted to, but it's not really neccessary. I've only ironed my SWK a couple times in over a year, and then it was more to smooth out the front apron than to take care of the creases.

Thanks Guys....I am just kinda lazy when it comes to ironing. I love my USAK casual because I can just hang it up between wearings and it looks great when I pull it out to wear. I usually just have to touch it up a bit after washing but I have only really ironed the whole thing once. I compete in the Highland Games and I can be pretty rough on my kilts so I was just trying to save some steps.
Thanks Again,
John
