Yeah, drive is salvaged and in the slave position... managed to grab everything except my bookmarks... which is okay, I seldom use them anyway.
I've had plenty of stupid questions over the years... and 9 out of 10 times it's a PEBKAC error...
I recently set up a wireless network for my mom... wow was that fun...[/sarcasm]

Comiserations on the machine loss, but glad to hear that you've got the drive back and salvaged most of your data.
Auto re-boot on power up is risky unless you also have auto power-off on thermal monitoring, and alarms that indicate if a fan has failed - but you know this.
As an IT guy, myself, I apply the 'cobblers children have no shoes' principle - I'm running a scrap old twin Pentium-III under my desk right now, with the lid (side) off to keep the air circulation going.
As they say on alt.sysadmin.recovery 'All hardware sucks, all software sucks...'
Best regards

Yeah, I was running it without the sides on up until a couple of weeks before the storm, but decided to make my office look a little nicer... boy did I learn my lesson!
It was set to auto-reboot because in my old house, every outlet in the room was connected to the light switch... so when I was stupid and flipped the switch on the way out, or when my wife wanted to be nice and flip the light on for me when I was zoned out on a game in the dark... the computer would come right back up... I moved and this wasn't an issue and just never bothered to change the BIOS because I never thought about... Oh well, you live and learn I suppose...
Now I'm trying to hunt up some affordable SDRAM so I can get back on World of Warcraft...

I know it's a bit off subject, but I'm looking for some good wallpaper for my computer screen, good scot stuff would be great. I've got scot flags and a couple paintings, would like some others!

It may just be the power supply that is dead. Pull the power supply out of the other computer and just hook up the necessities to it..MB, HD. See if it will attempt to boot.

Best price/reliability stuff I've seen is Crucial - www.crucial.com - who are the on-line arm of Micron who actually make the stuff. I've done loads of orders for self, friends, family, work, and had no problems, and their prices seem competitive for the quality of chips they ship.

There was this thread on Xmarks a while back - with the (IMHO excellent) photography by one of our own.
Also, look out for Pour1Malt's travelogues, as he often has interesting photos attached.

If you like "scenery" you can get some good wallpapers at www.undiscoveredscotland.com. I have several of their wallpapers on each of my machines.
