Because the storm hit late in the day, it didn't melt off very quick (by Phoenix standards). In town, the snow actually stuck to the vegetation for several hours. In the outlying areas, the snow didn't disappear until nearly midday on Monday!

I'm a native Phoenician & sure I've seen it snow here before, but it would always be pretty light coverage & melt quickly in like a half-hour or so. NEVER in nearly 51 years have I seen it snow this hard, blanket the ground like this & stick around for so long!

It sure surprised all the tens-of-thousands of snowbirds who flock here to get away from the snow!

Well, the Bears are in the Super Bowl & after this snowstorm & I'm ready to believe that almost anything can happen, but the Cubs winning the Series???

All I can think of is that it must have really messed up traffic. I'm sure that most of the people there have no idea how to drive in snow and the local governments have very little in the way of equipment to deal with it.
