Woah! "Alien"! I can picture you as a baby Dreadbelly bursting out of someone's chest (with the dreadlocks and a ravenous appetite for habeneros). I thought most acrylics are blends of rayon and cotton or some other combination. Are you dissolving pure synthetic fibres? If so, that's pretty durned impressive.
Sucks that you're eating through your kilts though. I'm sure you and your doctor will figure it out.

The luminous Joan bleahces our sheets. She simply cannot wear anything green, her body sweat bleaches the green to yellow. It's just green that is affected, but it's a royal pain. We've not found a solution.
I vot for trying hemp, too...that and diet. but I dunno.

Serious comment - have you considered what effect (if any) your diet may have on the pH of your sweat? Food choices can definitely affect body pH.

Very strange, but it would seem that a liner of some kind is in-order. And as you've already mentioned, diet needs adjusting.
Good luck man and keep us posted.

Ok, this may or may not work, but if your sweat is acidic you could try washing your kilt/shirts/ect in water that is slightly base...such as adding a cup (or two) of baking soda to your loads. I don't know if such a thing is made but a low-ph body soap might help things as well...or a soak in a tub of soda water may also help (and an added benefit will be soft skin).
I do agree you would do well to talk to your doctor...s/he may have suggestions on how to make your body less corrosive. Good luck with it...

Wow, lots of suggestions Dread,
I gotta add mine. Move to southern Arizona. Then your sweat would evaporate before it came near any kilt fabric...well, except during monsoon season...
You'd be at home on Tucson's Fourth Avenue...I sure am when I can get down there.

By all means, look into the health issues,
but don't let myths about wool fool you.
You can wash wool. It has been done
for thousands of years. There may be
an issue with putting it into the washer,
though gentle cycle may be OK.
I wash my wool socks with my other
socks in the washer 's regular cycle
with no problems. I also wash woven
wool blankets the same way. For my
kilts, I always wash by hand with woolite
in room temperature or cooler water, just
to be safe. They don't need washing that
often so I don't mind.

I would have to second that only try a little further south and try Uma no moisture can survive that heat, boils water thrown on the concrete easy.
then again here in albuquerque does about the same in summer and your diet of chilie enhanced items are easy to get. you just have to accept the nuclear depots and living in a dormant valcano crater.

Dread, just stick to pure gold watches and jewelry. I don't know about a kilt woven from gold thread though.

My diet is kinda what keeps me alive. Kidney and liver function, as well as immune system, aren't so hot. I have staved off kidney dialysis thus far by purifying my blood with blisteringly hot foods and sweating impurities out through my skin... It works! When I was 25 I was told I was going to have to start going to dialysis, something I wasn't happy about. I haven't been there yet. Liver function has improved considerably as well. I've stopped having to take antibiotics constantly for every little thing... At one point I was taking 20 or 30 different pills a day just to keep functioning, and now I take zero. I fear changing that part of my diet would rob me of all the progress I have made with my health. Also, the capsaicin from the chilis is one of the natural compounds I use to treat my RA. The anti-inflamatory properties as well as the natural pain killers keep me going. The constant burning also keeps me from drowning in my own mucous from the fibro.
I've had to adopt a scorched earth, er, scorched body policy to fight my disease. I guess it is a small price to pay for the massive quality of life improvement.
I've done a little reading online here and there, and I have found out why it has become worse since moving to a mostly vegetable based diet... The grease from meats isn't being sweated out, which seems to help curb some of the acidic content. I ran in to some advanced chemistry stuff and got confused, couldn't make sense of what I was trying to read.
I think over time and as finances allow, it is best for me to slowly shift what I wear to materials that resist acid, like hemp, or oil impregnated canvas duc, and slowly replace my day to day wear items. Also need to start looking in to soy silk. I just wish the cost on it would go down.
