Hey Joe,
I had the same dilemma. I actually copied pics of ALL the Isle of Skye kilts posted and ruminated and agonized over how to have it pleated...the only solution seemed to buy TWO.
What I finally did was to tell Kathy to pleat it the way she thought it looked best. She did, I'm happy.

I'll be joining the Isle of Skye band of brothers in a month or two - Barb has just mailed to inform me that MY kilt length of the IoS has just been delivered to her. I know she has a lot of work on hand and fortunately I am a patient man (!!) ...... I just know the wait will be worthwhile.
[PS: mine is Braeriach weight and Barb is pleating it to the stripe for me.]
White stripe Hamish? Can't wait to see the effect.

We may need to set up a sticky thread (or threads) under Heraldry and Tartans showing the different effects of pleating styles for popular tartans like IoS, X-Marks, etc.

Gordon Cousin Turpin,
It was you and all the other guys with Isle of Skye tartan kilts that sold me on it.
Sometimes its hard to judge from pics due to differences in cameras and monitors, but when you line a bunch of pics up of a lot of different kilts with the same tartan its not hard to get a good feel for the tartan.
The Isle of Skye is a beautiful tartan REGARDLESS of how its pleated by the kiltmaker.
