    Estrella War XXIII

ok before I begin I already KNOW what some are going to say.....

" the SCA isnt historicly correct!".....no but its fun
" the Kilt wasnt around at that time so you shouldnt wear it "......well it is for FUN so its ok if you ask me!!

" its just a bunch of people who never got over playing D& D " ......that may be true for some people but again .....ITS FUN!!!!

    see a patteren here?

so with that out of the way .....

    who's going to the war?!?!?

we MAY be going ...still kinda up in the air at the moment but we'll know for sure by the beginning of next week
Estrella War XXIII is the website
and its at a new site this year... just outside of Florence AZ ( makes it aot easier for us southies to come to war now! only a 1 1/2 hour drive VS 2 hrs 45 mins.)

for those in Pa-hoe-nix it probably about a 45 min drive!
if you look on the site they have "day passes" and if you feel you want to stay overnight I'm sure we could put you up at least semi comfortably!
( you MAY want to stay overnight .....the hamebrew beer and Mead are REALLY GOOD and POTENT!! int: besides after the sun goes down THATS when the party starts!!)

bring 5-8 yards of 60 wide tartan and a belt, and I'll have you in a great kilt in about 5 mins.

    let me know folks!

Wrong side of the world for me, but I'm sure you'll have fun. Besides, I'm too old for that any more.

Have a good time. Who gives a rip whether you're historically correct or not. I'm not even politically correct, but I still have a good time.

Why would anyone want to get over playing D&D?

    *confused*

Ask me about my 6th level Wizard/Bloodmage!

*smiles at the D&D comments and simply nods in agreement tucking her dice bag back in its drawer*

A friend of mine is the Arocrat at Heralds Point. He keeps tempting me to come out there for war. One of these years I'm going to take him up on that offer. I do hope the weather holds out for you. I hear this year is to be the best yet.

Go hard, I say. I used to be a member of the SCA group here, though it was mainly an excuse to beat eachother with sticks. We weren't accurate by any means, but it was fun.

I'm afraid the SCA lost all of my interest when the 31st person(not an exaggeration-after the first few I started keeping a count.) who was an SCA member walked up to me on the street (not at an event, mind you, just on the street!) and told me that my great kilt wasn't "period." I realize that those 31+ people do not comprise the entire SCA, but that was enough of them to make me shoot the whole idea of getting involved in any way out of a cannon.

SCA, Knights of Old, Mediaeval Society of Memphis, Amtgard... Ahhh those were fun times. Still have the scar from the sword through my foot to prove it!

Sorry, Scott, I mean, Connor, I've got other plans for that week. You see sometime during that week (I won't say when) is our 30th wedding anniversary & my 51st birthday. If I were to suggest to my wife that we spend our anniversary at an SCA "war" I'm afraid she'd get "medieval" on me!

I have no doubt that you & yours will have a fun time there - I'll be looking for the pics. Enjoy!!

well my daughters B-day is on the 10th

my wife's is on the 20th.....then you got V-day on the 14th

Guess who spends alot of time on merchants row at the war buying presents?

Retro Red......well if she likes going to the Ren Faire she would like at least comming out for the day to go shopping ( playing devils advocate here) I believe its $10 for a day pass VS 16 for the renfaire? seems like she would have more $$ to spend if you came to the war!! besides .......stuff is cheaper at the war too!

Katmills....if you come out I'd say wait till Estrella 25 ...or 30 to do so it'll be a bigger beast by then !

Erisianmonkey......I lived in Denver for a while and met up with a few SCAdieans there....they seem to take the historical aspect of the game to the point of stupid IMHO. Atenveldt has a more laid back approach
kinda like ....yeah we may not be totally acurate.....but we can PUMMEL YOU into the ground fighting wise!

That'd happened to me once or twice before I took to carrying a couple of Xeroxed pages from various history books folded into my sporran - indicating that the so-called "great kilt" was dated to at least 1594.

It is period. But just barely. It's still fun to deflate the windbags.

If you weren't at an SCA event, "periodicity" doesn't matter at all.

If you were at an SCA event, that sort of commentary is still inexcusably rude, and it's perfectly acceptable to reply, "Oh, shucky darn! Good for me I didn't ask you and don't care about your opinion!"
