I'm in if it's 16-oz wool.
I'm not clear on this single/double width business, but I know I need 9 yards to make a knife-pleated tank to fit me.
If I order 9 yards of double-width, I assume that this would mean that I could cut it into three kilt lengths, one of 9 yards and two of 4.5 yards?
Or is there some splice and dice arrangment going on here where if two people each order 4 yards of double width, they get it delivered as 8 yards of single width each?
Best regards

I've had the pleasure of working with F&K cloth in both 14 oz weight and in 18 oz weight. I have to say I've never worked with their 16 oz weight. But I can say, from that experience, that their 18 oz weight is far superior to their 14 oz. I have to admit I had some trouble working with the 14 oz, and for some reason it was a dickens to get a pleat to stay pressed in the X Marks kilts I've made. I don't know if this is characteristic of all their 14 oz cloth, or just that particular run.
However, I've made a few kilts from their 18 oz cloth (MacKenzie tartan) and it is just a joy to work with. Really soft, great hand, and really pleats up well.
So, while I have no direct experience with their 16 oz cloth, I'm assuming it will behave better than the 14 oz. And hey, 18 oz would be great!
I'm not ordering cloth, so I don't really have a say in what you guys decide to do. But I figured as someone who may potentially be making kilts from whatever cloth ya'll order, I'd voice my opinion. Heavier the better!
(Oh, and to answer another question, the $65 per yard heavy kilt weight wool I mentioned at the beginning of the thread is available for any individual to order at any time, as the minimum is only 4 yards. This is really great quality kilting cloth, woven in Scotland. Yes, it's more expensive, but you also don't have to put in a group order. So for those of you who want the cloth without having to wait or depend on others, it's always there as an option).

the fabric is only made double width....if you really need nine linear yards to go around you, then just order 4.5 or 5 yards. Your kilt maker will be the one doing the slicing and dicing.

Aye Matt, I was thinking of you from the get go. I saw the photo of the Xmarks box pleat you did for KCW earlier in this post and I was sold! Loved the look of it. Odd that you were having problems with the earlier run of cloth though.

So how many meters are we up to now? I think we're pretty close to the 55 meter mark, especially if Steve is going to buy 10-12 meters for himself.

I just did a count of the people who have expressed interest in this thread and via PM and e-mail.
Here are the totals;
H. Hastings = 4.0
Splash 4 = 4.0
Retro Red = 2.0
Ruanatdh = 5.5
Cloves = 4.0
War Hoover = 5.0
Turpin = 4.5
Way 2 Fractious = 3.0
Total = 32 yards
55meters = 60.43 yards
Still a way to go to get the reduced price.
