Regarding Announcements in the Celebration Zone
Hello All,
The question of why someone has not been recognized for advancement has come up a few times in the last week. I thought it might help if the members of our forum understand the process a little bit so no one will feel that they are being slighted.
starbkjus, KiltedCodeWarrior, and now myself cover the "Celebration Zone" on different days of the week (and give each other a hand the rest of the time).
The birthdays are easy. We can look to the calendar and prepare to announce them ahead of time. Members that haven't visited the forum for a significant amount of time are not recognized. We would like the cheers to be meaningful and go out to active X Markers.
Dee, Rob, and I each run a report on our day, of the new promotions. This report shows members who have posts within a certain range both below and above the rank. This way we know who to keep an eye on to announce their promotion. If someone is a prolific poster it is easy for them to skip through this range and not be seen on the report. This can become more complicated if you think about the time zones involved. I'm here in Californa starting one day when X Marks the Scot Member X is finishing up the same day in Far East.
We three house chairmen truly enjoy giving recognition to those that have contributed to our Forum. It is never our intent to exclude anyone.
To all those out there that achieved a new rank without fanfare please accept my apologies. Your contributions make this a great place to be.
If you see that you or someone else has advanced in rank in the last 24 hours and hasn't received due credit, please feel free to drop a pm to any one of the three of us. We certainly appreciate the help.
To all the Kilted Newbies, Members, Samurai, Warriors, Gentry, Nobles, Elders, Legends, Grand Defenders of the Kilt, and those beyond I doff my plumed hat.
Cheers to you and my thanks for your understanding.

Panache, you do a fine job. If anything, we need a post in the celebration zone for our House Chairmen.

I apologise, I was in a bit of a bolshie mood.
I can't quite get my head around the "If someone is a prolific poster it is easy for them to skip through this range and not be seen on the report" though.
Surely if the posts are read on a frequent basis it's not hard to pick them up given that the number of posts appears against a member when they contribute?
We all appreciate the difficult job the House Chairs do though so as Panache says, if we think that we or someone else has been missed then we should PM.
I will in future!

McClef,
I try and read almost all the new posts on X Marks except some of the very technical ones that deal with playing bagpipes and kilt making (which make me feel like I'm trying to follow stereo instructions where every other word is in Russian). Now I can barely remember my own phone number, let alone if McMurdo was a Kilted Ninja yesterday and is a Kilted Pastry Chef today. The reports we generate comb through all 1,836 members both active and inactive to show those who are about 10 or so posts below and above a certain rank.
So imagine that after "Kilted Pastry Chef" comes the title Kilted Abstract Painter (100,000 posts).
I run a report and get everybody out of 1,836 members that are between 99,990 posts and 100,010 posts. Yesterday McMurdo had 99,952 posts.
But today he got up at 6:00 AM and had three pots of coffee and started into a lengthy debate with cajunscot about trews. He posts an amazing 78 times before he had to head out the door 45 minutes later. His post count is now 100,030. At 8:00 AM in California I run the report of who has been promoted to Kilted Abstract Painter. McMurdo doesn't fall within the range so I don't realize he has promoted up. Unless someone gives us a heads up McMurdo's next chance of getting a "Well Done" will be when his post count gets closer to the next rank, in this case Kilted Key Grip.
I hope this helped explain how it works.
By the by, McClef no worries. Everybody wants a little recognition now and then.
Cheers

McMurdo has rolled over the post count-o-meter and back at 1,322. Or is he scheduled to drink a lot of coffee this week?
Seriously the posting rank were kinda interesting when I joined XMarks, now its cute to see the different titles. If I ever make Kilted Pastry Chef I do not think I'll fit in my kilts.

You'll never hear griping from me and you have enough to watch out for without baking birthday cakes every five minutes. I post for quality (debateable, I'm sure), not quantity. I couldn't care less what my post count or rank is and could never figure out why that matters.
