The Moffat tartan fits the bill. You can see two kilts in this tartan, one a four yard box pleated kilt that I made, the other a standard 8 yard knife pleated kilt, pictured about mid-way down this page:

One of the guys who participated in the Kirk'in yesterday was wearing a Moffat Tartan Kilt. It is one of the few predominantly grey and black tartans I have seen and is very unique. It was a good looking kilt.

I think that Moffat tartan would fit the bill for what I'm looking for.
