Matt and Rocky beat me to it.
Though I have no connection to MacBeth's (wife's best friend is one, does that count? ) I am a long admirer of that tartan. WHen I saw your photo I went "ooh ooh! I know this one!" But, alas... Good find though. Wear it with pride. I'm certain I will have a MacBeth kilt at some point or other...

Thank you so much, gentlemen. After holding the kilt up beside my monitor display of Rocky's swatch, I can concur that it is indeed, MacBeth. Its a pity I didn't have it a month earlier so I could have attended the Vancouver Opera Association's season opening production of......Verdi's MacBeth in it! Its a lovely kilt, but I've only worn it a couple of times so far. You know how it is- at least once during a night on the town someone is going to ask you what tartan you're wearing, and I really do hold to the notion of having both a respect for, and some knowledge of the history of the tartans that I wear. Now to do some research on the MacBeth clan!

The Macbeth tartan is the identical sett to the Prince Charles Edward Stewart tartan, the only difference being the base colour, blue for Macbeth and red for Prince Charles Edward Stewart, and clearly represents the old royal line. Bonnie Prince Charlie is said to have worn the red version (named after him) in Edinburgh way back in 1745, so it has a really long pedigree. The Royal Stewart tartan is very similar as well.
The Kilt is my delight !
