Raising a glass to our friends

Last night we in Memphis raised a glass of Canadian beer in honor of the anniversary of the Canadian Maple Leaf flag. We’d have sang O’Canada but none of us Yanks knew the words Here’s To Colin, SnakeEyes, The Wizard of BC, McMurdo and any other Canadian fellow XMarkers.

					Canada? Canada?
 Don't get me started!

Shatner (Denny Crane!)! Guess Who! Alex Trebeck (...so, Trebeck, we meet again...)! Victor Garber (just found this one out yesterday)! Bare Naked Ladies! Robertson Davies (read "What's Bred in the Bone"...you'll get hooked)! The Group of Seven! Neil Young! Dan Aykroyd! Martin Short! Dave Thomas! Red Green (and Harold)! They shoot Stargate up there...and that Doctor MacKay on SG Atlantis has the Canadian Flag patch on his uniform (and that Scottish Doctor has his Saltire patch...how cool is that?)! Molson's Canadian...not that Molson's Golden stuff that you tried to pawn off on us the first time! Poutine! Tim Horton's (PLEASE, somebody, open a Tim Horton's in Chicago...I miss those nice little fruit tarts and sitting around drinking coffee with a bunch of cab drivers)!

I'll let you off the hook for Celine Dion...she's defected to Las Vegas anyway.

I went to one of the last Montreal Expos games and my family and I had a couple of New Yorkers that were sitting behind us totally befuddled because we sang BOTH national anthems...

I really like Canada a whole lot. God bless you wonderful people for being there...if you weren't North of us, I don't know what we'd do.

 Best

Yeah, it's kind of like when we try to sing "O Danny Boy" on St. Patty's day:

However, we do stand at attention when they play "O Canada" at the games. My buddy's wife from Calgary used to pass out the words at the Stopne Mountain games so we could all sing along, and it was quite a chorus. The folks who couldn't see us holding the words were very impressed that we knew them.

Anyway, tonight, we're gonna hoist a glass or two for your flag in Conyers.

For the life of me I can't remember the French version of 'O Canada, I couldn't even sing it in High School when I had to learn it .
Thanks for the info about our Flag Colin, I didn't remember the history of it. Tonight I'll have to pour myself a pint of stout and raise my glass to salute the greatest country in the world (no offence to our U.S. or U.K. counterparts, I'm sure in your eyes your country is the greatest also

					Colin,
I am sorry I missed your posting on this matter yesterday, and we are just coming to the end of today, but tomorrow (Saturday), I will wear my 16oz Maple Leaf tartan Geoffrey (Tailor) kilt in honour of The Maple Leaf - forever. If I raise a glass it will have to be a soft drink as I am currently rehearsing for giving up alcohol for Lent!

My two visits to Canada (Toronto/Oakville in 1996 and Vancouver/Port Moody in 2005) are among my very happiest memories. Thank you and your fellow countrymen for being who you are, where you are!
