Advice for Flying Needed

I chose not to wear a kilt while flying down and back from Florida recently because of the security thing, and also, the cramped seating; getting into my seat, and getting out. Upon my return journey, I'd have been seated for too long with ice pellets closing the airport and hence delaying departures from Ronald Reagan.

During one of my shore excursions, I had gone ashore wearing one of my kilt-front wraps, and upon returning to the ship and passing through their scanners, security asked me what I had underneath. I told him nothing. He asked again what I had under my wrap. I said, "Nothing!" and lifted it up for him to see. I was in fact, regimental. (It was a clothing optional cruise so I wasn't concerned at anyone around me seeing that I was regimental.) I was confused as to what he wanted from me. Other security officers in the vacinity laughed and he seemed to be surprised/shocked at me showing him, but what did he expect? He told me to pass on through. What did he suspect? I'd already gone through the metal detectors. ???

At another time, I did pass through the scanners with buckles and didn't set off the alarm. One point of consideration though; kilt pins probably wouldn't pass inspection and would be considered weapons, which you'd have to either mail back to yourself, or try to place them in baggage that you've already checked.

Depends on the type of pin. The traditional long pin style will not pass but the ones with two short pins and trhe fastners on the back are just fine. I am actually having a jeweler convert two of mine for that purpose.
