Dunoon tartan!
I was poking around on www.scotwebstore.com...
and I managed to find this:
http://scotwebstore.com/materialfind...on_id=cYCpARcL
Needless to say, this is one that I really need.
I didn't know Dunoon had a tartan, I figure that it would just fall under the Argyll district, as others have previously said. I do not know whether this is a fashion tartan or not, but even if it is, I like it.

Tartan finder shows this tartan as named Dunoon Irish or Glasgow Irish Pipe Band, dating from 1935.
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.

I just did a brief search to see if anything was out there. The Scotwebstore finder didn't give an extra info.
Looks good at any rate.

I also found another one, that has similar connections:
It's the Polaris tartan, named after a class of US Navy subs. It seems more or less the Black Watch (looks sort of like ancient colour values), with a heavy royal blue/purple (I am viewing on a computer monitor here) stripe that is bordered with yellow. Pretty sharp. This was created at some point (from what I read) for US military personel that were stationed at Holy Loch submarine base, which is where my father was stationed, which comes back to why we lived in Dunoon. I just think it would be an interesting throwback, since just about anyone who knows what it is will likely have been in the region too, and those are the circumstances to how I happened to be born, where I was born, and when. So it's a neat way (and an excuse) for me to show some respect.
Link for those who want to take a look:

I am leaning more towards the Polaris tartan, than the Dunoon tartan, as I wouldn't mind throwing down for the Dunoon, if I could verify whether it was recognized by the town or not...but unless I can, it's gonna be the Polaris.

I love this Tartan! And having spent a wee bit o' time in Dunoon makes it all the more interesting.
This is what I found on the Scottish Tartans Authority web site:
Name of Tartan: Dunoon Irish
Alternative name: Glasgow Irish Pipe Band
ITI number: 1802 Date: 1935
Category: Pipe Band
Designer / Source: Bayne, Harry
Copyright:
I'm not an STA member so that's all I can discover [HINT] but perhaps someone who is ... [/HINT].
One of the things I like about this tartan is its simplicity. I wonder if it should be the tartan that I use to make my first kilt? Any opinions?

Just about everything I know about the Polaris is on a page on my web site.
I'm currently saving my schekles and hope to order a Polaris kilt (and perhaps a fly plaid) from Alexis Malcolm perhaps in March. She sent me a swatch and you're right, the Polaris is essentially a Black Watch with a pretty over check. Alexis gets her tartan from D.C. Dalgliesh. She is also the kiltmaker for the USNA Pipes and Drums who wear the Polaris.

I think you will find that this is not a 'stock' tartan, but is one that would have to be especially woven for you.

Thanks Hamish. Dark green. That's a surprise. But sure, when I zoomed in on the images of the tartan, it's green.
Oh, and I'll be getting you that Royaly check for my Hamishes as soon as I can find my copy of the fee schedule so that I know how much I owe. I know it's around here somewhere <loud rustling of papers>
Ta!

Tax return season/tuition refund. Gonna treat myself...just working on figuring out who's gonna make it/where can I get a good garment without spending too much. Although I would like to get a tank, I have emailed Kathy Lare, and Rob MacDonald (if either of these two can get the fabric, I am hoping that it can beat scotwebstore's price... although it seems that I am going to spend at least $500 on it one way or another. I might go 5 yard knife pleat from Matt. It is an option, it's just a matter of who can do what, and within what price ranges. The tartan is a bit on the pricey side, that part is unavoidable.
