Darn, Kid, I wish I'd come up with that first.
Like Riverkilt, I like to mix and match . . .within limits of taste. He and I are of the same generation, so I suspect our tastes are generally close to the same. I personally would never wear a tank top and combat boots with a kilt--I'd look pretty fooish at my age. And i would never wear a palid shirt with tartan. I try to look pretty conservative.
But I do love the look of a sweater and a kilt. (I don't own anything but tartan. Might some day, but not now.) I love to mix up different shirts and such to see what looks cool. (Old guys do like to be cool.) And I love the look of a khaki shirt with a kilt in the summer. Then there are all the opportunities to "dress up" with a tie, jacket, prince charlie, or doublet.
To answer your question, sure, fix up all the set outfits you want. But you may be cheating yourself out of opportunities to experiment. Just enjoy what your're doing.
Life is too short and too important to take it too seriously.
