Good for you I am sure that your new kilt will keep you warm. Heck even if you came north it would keep you warm up here, and it sounds like it will be way more comfortable than 2 kilts at once.
Boots and layers are important though, I have been out in -20 in my 16 oz and been very toasty indeed, provided Iam wearing my boots and enough layers on top.

Neither of these is warm alone in the windy 10-25
degree (F) weather we've been having here.
Some of the young guys in our neighborhood have been wearing those baggy thin oversized nylon shorts all winter. Now that, I should think, would be cold!

I SAID something petticoat like! I was talking about a 'woolen underkilt' of sorts. It makes perfect sense!

I think some would look on this as a skirt, not a kilt if you were to use a petticoat or its' ilk.

The knife pleated tank puts more layers between

Well, when I need to brave -35 degree temperatures with wind, I put on a 16 oz. kilt, but make sure to cover my ears, face, hands, and wear knee-high kilt hose. The cold was never a problem this winter!

Dirka, careful... even though you are right, you must remember, and never forget. These guys are afriad of anything that might call their kilt wearing into question (even underwear)!! As for me I agree with K.T. and the others, If you wear the proper upper layers and warm boots and socks, you will be warm. Especially wrapped in 7 or 8 yards of 16oz wool...
