Oh, did I tell you that I used to be a "Haunt Hunter"? I attended the seminar at the University of St.Louis, and completed there requirements to be a "Parapsychological Investigator." Still have my manual and everything. Who you gonna call?

Not far from my dad's haunted farmhouse is an isolated place that all the locals refer to as "The Baby Graves". If you look into it at all, though you'll find out that it is infact the former cemetery for the town. They stopped using it back inthe 1910s, and the only tombstone that remains there (do to vadalism, of course) is that of a baby. Hence, "The Baby Graves".

Anyways, me and some friends decided to go check it out one night, but we couldn't find the entrance. So I got out of the car and walked down the side of the road while the others followed in a car. I was looking at the trees, trying to find the entrance. I looked down for I one second and... no lies here guys... I heard a baby cry. I looked up, in shock, and there was the entrance. And what an entrance. Talk about some horror movie stuff. There it was, a weatherd, broken down wooden gate, the trees curved above it like some creepy gothic arch.

Reluctantly, but still curious and a little excited, we agreed to go in. Thank goodness for flashlights! To tell the truth there was nothing special to look at inside, just the remains of some broken tombstones. But the trees here seemed just a bit more twisted, a bit darker, a bit more sinister. It felt like you were inside of a building, the oddly shaped trees forming the vaulted ceilings.

Finally, we all gathered around the only remaining tombstone.

    "Our Little Darling
    Volkmar Belack
    May 1910 - September 1912"

I convinced the others to turn of their flashlights, and for us to just stand in the silence and darkness. There we stood, with absoluetly nothing happening for about 5 minutes. Suddenly there was a drop in temperature. It felt like walking into a meat cooler, and this was on a warm summer evening. I didn't want to ruin the moment, so I didn't say anything. One of the other fellows spoke up...

"Did it just get colder? Like, really cold?"

And that was enough for us. We hightailed it back to the car, broke the limit back to town, and spent the rest of the night in my house with every light turned on.

We lived in a house in Petersburg Va until I was a senior in high school. I guess I was around 7 or 8, when I awoke one night, and needed to go to the bathroom. The facilities were at the opposite end of a long hall from my bed room. When i walked out of the bedroom, I saw a luminous looking figure exit the room at the end of the hall and go into the small room off to the side where the toilet was located. I ran back in my room, jumped into the bed and pulled the covers over my head. I finally had to get up and pee, or wet my bed, so I peed out the window and got back in and covered my head again. After that, I never used that bathroom during the night again. When I invited a friend to sleep over a couple of years later, he declined saying that our house was haunted by the ghost of a previous owner who had hanged himself in that bathroom by putting a pipe across the opening into the attic (located above the toilet), tying a rope to it and putting the noose around his neck before jumping off the toilet. My parents had a bathroom installed downstairs when I was 12, and I started sleeping down there. I never saw the figure again, but we all heard strange noises upstairs at times. Some would sound like a thump, such as might be heard when someone reached the end of the drop when hanging their self, and sometimes a sound like the rope creaking from the weight at its end. Other times we heard footsteps above the kitchen. That was where the upstairs bathroom was located.

I grew up in a house in Mt. Airy Md. It was a grand old house on Main St.; build during the 1870’s. My Uncle was visiting us and one morning we noticed that he was acting a little strange. He was reluctant to say what was wrong. However, after some prodding, he told so the he woke up in the middle of the night and saw a woman standing at the foot of his bed. He said that the lady had red hair. When he looked at her she turned and walk out of the room through a door into the adjoining bed room. There were two problems no one in the house had red hair and there as a piece of furniture blocking the door in the adjoining bed room. The door could not be open.

As we talked bout this my mother remembered that the wife of the former owner had red hair and matched her general description. From that day forward any thing strange that occurred as attributed to Louise.

A number of years later my mother opened a Ceramic Shop in the house. As it grew the three car garage was enlarged and the shop was move out of the house. One summer my mother hired a young college student to help pour the ceramic castings (greenware). One day this young man worked late trying to fill all the orders that were outstanding. Since it was late and he was to come back the next day my mother invited him to spend the night. He agreed and used one of the rooms in the attic of the house. There was not alarm clock in the room and the young man over slept. When he came down to the shop he was ashen and shaking. It took a while to get him to talk.

I seemed that that a red haired lady had shaken him and told him that he was late. He was to get up and go to work. Once he was awake the lady turned and walked through the door and left the room. For some reason the young man never spent the night again.

After I got married and lived in VA, FL, and TN, my wife and I returned to Frederick, MD to live. We were lucky that a friend of my wife’s had a house in downtown that they were thinking of renting. The house was built in the 1930’s by the friend’s Grandparents. My wife’s friend had grown up in the house and my wife had spent a lot of time in the house visiting. It was almost like coming home for my wife.

About 10 years before we moved in the friend’s mother had passed away in the living room of the house. The father died a few years later and the house stood empty for about five years before we moved in. Not long after we moved in my wife and I commented on some strange sounds in the house. My wife said off handedly that just the friend’s mother, Louise, don’t worry about it. (Do I sense a theme here?) Over the years the sounds continued but never any problems for us. But, I am not sure I can say the same for our cats. It appeared that the cats enjoyed the house and did the normal cat things. However, every so often one or the other of the cats would sit on the landing on the stairs between the 1st and 2nd floor. The cat would sit there staring up at the top of the stairs and give out that low guttural moan cats have when they are frightened of something. We had a number for cats while living in this house and they all did the same thing, stare and moan.

I may not have been the former owner since we were only about 5 houses away from the local Catholic Church. The Church was used as a hospital during the Civil War after both Antietam and Gettysburg and is on the route for the local ghost tour. There may have been some spill over.

My mother-in-law has been a loyal subscriber for years and years. Sometimes I think it is the only thing that gets her out of the house is picking up her subscription.

That was a cool article Jerry. As it turns out, I had mentioned this thread to one of my real life buddies, and he related to me about having read a similar type article. His was about a kind of "natural recording."
He tried to explain that maybe if all of the right elemnts were in place, that maybe the evironment could some how record an image, then later play back that image.
For instance, a herd of wild horses runs through a canyon made of cliffs high in iron content. There is lightning or just the right amount of static electricity in the air. Somehow the image is transfered to the cliff face...then later, again if all of the elements are in place, somehow that image or series of images can be naturally played back or projected off of the cliff face.
Weird and far fetched I know, but it's cool to think that the technology we try to invent might occur naturally.

I'm afraid I'm a terrible skeptic of things "paranormal"... but I do find the stories entertaining nonetheless.

I agree with Blu. No way anyone can convince me otherwise. Still, though, the stories can be fun.

    Anyway...

Last year I lived in Waldron Tower, a residence at Queen's University. Now, this building used to be owned by the Kingston General Hospital, and was used as a nurses' residence. Big, tall building - eleven stories. I lived on the top floor. Now, this building has two stairwells that go from the ground floor right to the top. Open stairwells. Now, what happened is this: one night a mental patient from the hospital, which was connected to the tower, wandered up to the eleventh floor. A nurse was in the stairwell as he entered it. He attacked her and ended up pushing her over the railing. She fell to her death.

Up to this point, everything is fact. Here's where the ghost comes into it.

This nurse is apparently supposed to haunt the eleventh floor. Supposedly, she comes into your room while you sleep and rubs your feet (nurses do this to calm their patients). Obviously this never happened to me, but I always kind of hoped I would be proved wrong. Sounds nice to have your feet rubbed.

I have a vacation cabin in the mountains of New Hampshire. We rent it out preiodically through a realtor. We keep a guest book for folks to write us about the fun they had. Every once in a while guests will write about strange happenings and noises etc. I usually remove the pages from the book as to not alarm future guests. But they continue.
I have never had anything unusual happen to me, and truly am a skeptic. but: all though i have traveled solo through some remote places in the world and have slept alone in the middle of know-where quite comfortably to include combat zones etc. I have never felt comfortable sleeping alone in that house. I just get the willies! cant explain it. I prob should have a paranormal investigator look in to it, but im afraid of what i may learn.
