When I flew from Amsterdam to Glasgow...and back...no problems
I wore a 13oz "traditional" with 3 straps/buckles and a deerantler kilt pin.
Before the security check I took off my belt, wrist watch and sporran.
I expected the alarm to go off because of the buckles...and it did. I got frisked and scanned with a hand hold metal detector on both airports, but it took mere seconds. Nothing special, not annoying or embarrassing. I received a harsher treatment while wearing trousers.

The pleats didn't suffer a bit...the kilt after a tough weekend (Burns Supper in Dumfries)
Picture taken after:
-40 minutes car drive The Hague-Amsterdam.
-75 minutes flight Amsterdam-Prestwick.
-90 minutes car drive Prestwick-Dumfries.
-A serious pub crawl.
-A few strolls.
-A castle visit with a cramped car drive back and forth.

I didn't had problems with the sweep eather, but with a 34" waist I'm not a big bloke...might be different for those with a more impressive belly and or butt.
