Model Rail 2007 & Glasgow Harbour

Just back from three nights away, staying at the Ramada Hotel at Glasgow Airport while taking part in the annual model rail show at the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre in Glasgow. Besides stewarding duties, I assisted in opearting this layout, Dark Canyon, which was Hawick's exhibit and is owned by one of our club members. It is in N-scale.

The setting for Dark Canyon is supposedly between Skykomish and Wenatchee, in the Cascade Mountains, Washington, USA, where the Great Northern had an overhead electric section and a nine mile tunnel.

Time to escape the confines of the exhibition for a wee lunch time stroll around the adjacent Glasgow harbour.
The S.E.C.C. is dominated by this armadillo shaped concert hall, known as the Clyde Auditorium, standing on the north bank of the river at Glasgow Harbour.

The hammerhead crane was used for loading railway locomotives and other Glasgow built heavy machinery onto ships for export. In the background the Clyde Auditorium casts its reflection on the glazed frontage of the Crowne Plaza hotel.

With the Clyde Auditorium in the background. The shed type structure to its right contains the exhibition halls, including the hall where the model rail show was held.

The paddle steamer Waverley is based at Glasgow Harbour, with the base of the science tower behind.

Looking upriver towards the city centre.

    More amazing pictures Alex!

Thought I was seeing Sidney for a moment! The influence is clearly visible in that building!
