    Chef's Address

Well I didn't realise it at the time but a friend took a video of me doing one of my performances of "Address to a Haggis" this Burns season. They were kind enough to send me a copy.

The video quality is fairly low and I personally think it is not one of the better ones I did this season (I did 11) but I thought I would post it and see what my fellow members of the Rabble thought.

    Chef,

I thought that was really grand, very dramatic!. Obviously you have more than a bit of experience doing the Address (11? ). I was asked to do the Address for our Northern California Burns' Night supper and I had never seen it performed. I was delighted to see that I had figured out some of the traditional theatrics / gestures. Based on this video, my pronunciation needs a little work in some places.

Boy I wish I had seen this before I had to do it!

    Cheers and Well Done!

Thanks guys. I have been doing the address for a few years now and between Tartan Day, St. Andrew's Day, Burns Nights and the odd other occasion I did the address 26 times last year. I have 11 this year already (9 for Burn's Suppers and two for birthday parties including my Grandmother's 90th) so I think I might break my record this year. On one night this Burn's season I did three (yes at three different venues) and one evening I did it twice.

The one in the video is odd because I wasn't using the dirk I usually do. I had placed it on the table in preparation but I didn't realise until I started that someone had moved it so I just had to use the small knife the kitchen staff had put on the tray.

Well done Chef! Like James, I wish I had seen your rendition before I 'performed' the Address at our Ferintosh Burns Dinner last month - the first time I have ever given it (and probably the last!). It is very curious that in all the numerous Burns Dinners I have attended over the years, I have never before seen the Address delivered with theatrical embellishments and, had it not been for my seeing the video of James' recent delivery in Northern California before I headed for Dumfries, I should not have made even the slightest attempt at any 'actions'!!

If ever I am asked to give the Address again, I will a) TRY to learn it, and b) will certainly gie'd sum wellie!!
