If it was only an inch or so, I would say to just pull up the kilt a little more, but for that much you will probably have to hem it.
By the way, I assume you tried it on with the top at least at the navel or higher. You want to wear it at the proper height. It should not be worn as most people wear their trousers, that's too low for a kilt. It may feel strange to you the first few times, but that's the way to go.

I am wearing my SWK Hunting Mcleod as I write this and the top edge of the kilt is at least 1 inch above my navel and the bottom edge of the kilt is right at the middle of my knee. I think Dave mentioned it does take some getting used to wearing something this high.

You must be taller than I - my SWK Hunting Macleod comes to about three fingers above my navel (it covers the bottom ribs in the back over the kidneys!)

it hangs to a couple inches below the knee. i'm 5'7", so it makes it look like a skirt.
OH! Almost forgot! I think i need to exchange it for a smaller size. i tried mine on last night after i got home. had the straps set on the tightest setting, it was ok for a minute. i got to walking around a bit in it, to get used to it. well, it seemed that when i exhaled the thing tried to escape.
Thoughts?

I would go with a smaller size if I were you. I've never exchanged one, but I hear that Jerry is real good about that, as long as you haven't taken out the basting stitches.
That's probaly a good tip for everyone. Don't just try on the kilt and immediately remove the stitches. Wear it around the house a bit to make sure it fits the same way afterwards.

GreenDragon; I agree. I was at first quite uncomfortable with the over/above the navel wear. However, I've grown accustomed to the feel. I now easily adjust to the differing feel between UK's and SWK's. My length issue is still to be adressed. I like my hemline above the knee in all but two of my kilts. My UK leather and the Workman I like at the knee.
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?
