I think we're all dating ourselves by admitting what we used to drink. I remember ordering schooners by the quantity, rather than ordering by brand like I do now. We used to hold up our hands and flash our fingers at the waiter/waitress, and they'd plunk them down four at a time with one hand. They were four for a dollar, except in Washington State where you'd get five for a US$. The glasses were a little smaller there, and one C$ bought you US$1.05 then (boy, I am dating myself!), so it worked out about the same.

    Canadian Kahlua.

    Yoohoo and Crown Royale.

A truly vile concoction I had the misfortune of encountering. Oh sure, it is delicious and goes down smooth... But it is to easy to drink to much of it and pay the consequences.

Next day I was barfing out the car window all the way from Metaline Falls to Spokane. I thought I gave my self a hernia from all that hurling.

Am I the only one who (at my age, anyway) doesn't drink bad alcohol? Boy, I really have been 60 years old my entire life...

Bad alcohol? Isn't that a contradiction in terms?

(My two favorite beers are free beer and cheap beer... OK, not really.)

Did most of my drinking from 16 to 21. Finally realized this wasn't the lifestyle I wanted (thank you Southern Comfort). I now reserve my drinking a couple of beers on kilt nights (no more than three over 5 - 6 hours, driving you know). & wine on special occasions. If I buy a case I will drink three a day until it's gone, so I usually only buy two cases a year. One in summer one at Christmas. I will also drink a 26er of SoCo over the course of a year. Thats my poison, no rye , scotch, vodka or such. I'm 41 now with two kids under 10, they don't need to see dear old Dad hammered all the time.
You don't need to drink in excess at every opportunity. Enjoy the atmosphere, the company. Know your limits and keep to them.

    Sir Winston Churchill once said:
A single glass of champagne imparts a feeling of exhilaration. The nerves are braced, the imagination is agreeably stired, the wits become more nimble. A bottle - produces the contrary effect.
Words of wisdom from a man also quoted as saying:
When I was younger I made it a rule to never take a strong drink before lunch. It is now my rule to never do so before breakfast.

See... but I just skipped the 16-21 stage altogether. I'm all about quality, not quantity.

Find me a Canadian who doesn't like Crown Royal, and I'll eat my hat.

    Yeah. Drinkable. Nothing spectacular.

Edit: Hm. Maybe I should qualify that. I've only had it once, and that only after having drank a bit of scotch. Probably not ideal conditions for tasting the stuff. I'll hold off judgement.

It's easy to tell when you're in Canader. It's when you have the urge to put vinegar on your fries, eh?

    Abax

Edit: Almost forgot. It's also when the road signs say "Squeeze Left" instead of "Merge Left."
