Question Good $$$ for PV Tartan???

Anyone got an idea on the best priced PV? Specifically, I am Looking to make an 8 yard kilt in the Irish National.

Marton Mills offers the good 11 oz., teflon coated, in the IRELAND'S NATIONAL (marginally different pattern than the "Irish National." ) Don't know what your idea of "good price" is though. Perhaps Rocky or MacHummel can get some for you?

Irish National is going to be bloody hard to find in PV, especially given all it's copyrights.

If I am not mistaken, I thought that Rocky had to specially order the whole bolt to get the PV made from Marton Mills.

If you have a lot of people interested, you can start a new order. Otherwise I think the Irish National is going to be next to impossible to find in PV.

If you are just looking for some cheap material to test your kiltmaking skills on, but still want it to be something you would be proud to wear, check out your local fabric shops for some nice tartan material, or check out the specials at Fraser & Kirkbright in Vancouver http://www.wooltartans.com/tartans5.htm or their US site http://www.thescottishweaver.com/tartanremnants.html

Unless Rocky did an IRISH NATIONAL special run that I'm unaware of, I believe you're thinking of the IRELAND'S NATIONAL tartan that he carries. It's a bit different than the IRISH NATIONAL, and a regular stock of Marton Mills.

Yep, I am aware of the difference and looking back, you are correct that it was the Ireland's National.

In all honesty, I thought it was either Rocky or Bearthat had tried to get a run of the Irish National a few years ago, as he was also a big fan and had investigated it. The problem with the Irish National is that HoE owns the rights and keeps them pretty close. Stillwater has the rights to use it, but there are a lot of cheap knockoffs of that tartan out there too.

Personally I prefer the Ireland's National from MM.

    A little clarification...

SWK Has the EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS to have the IRISH National woven in anything OTHER THAN WOOL. He has it woven in Pakistan from their wool and acrylic for his kilts. I don't think Jerry sells material lengths. I think he just offers finished kilts.

USAK has the EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS to have the IRELANDS National woven in anything other than wool. We weave it in PV in the UK for our Casual and Semi Trad kilts. You can not buy it in PV as we are the only place that has it (it's not a stock tartan the mill is allowed to carry in PV).
