I like them, they have their place. When I wear a kilt I wear the shirt I would wear with pants. The kilt is a serious garment, not a play thing for me. What others wear is up to them.

A good reason. I don't have any tattoos, but my wife still likes to see (part of) my chest...

Personally I woudn't wear one as they remind me far to much of the "New romantic" era in the 80's (Steve Strange, Spandau Ballet, ect) in England

interestin tae see sae many negative comments
aboot somethin' that is worn regularly here in Scotland...
Jacobite shirts are the prefered thing tae wear wi' yur kilt when gaein' 'casual'...
it is a hale "casual" luek... (like Prince Charlie is a "formal" luek)
there are Jacobite Vests an Jacobite Jeekets made tae gae wi' the shirts...
they come in a' kinds o' colours... soft brushed cotton, standard cotton, poly, an even silk....
here arr twa lads in Jacobite shirts in Dumfries on Hogmanay...

They're OK casually, I just find them rather hot in Florida. I usually wear a tropic-weight oxford in some complimentary color, or a tan or white short-sleeve uniform shirt; much cooler, and IMO a sharper look which I prefer. I've got sliders in MacLennan tartan, and rifle green ones with bagpipes embroidered with silver.
Someone once said that uniform shirts made him look like a refugee from a pipe band; well, I am, so I guess I don't mind.
