Rabbit Fur

is rabbit fur or racoon easy to use when making a sporran? i have a trappers license and am getting it renewed this year and was thinking that with all the racoons and rabbits around my house i could easily have enough material to work with, but how hard is it? does anyone have a link? if it ends up being really difficult ill probrably just continue with my original plan of taking all the skins and making a freaking awesome comforter for my bed, now thats how you stay warm in the winter......well, at least when your by yourself

I used white acylic fake fur to make a sporran and it wasn't too bad. When you cut it it does tend to get everywhere, but a little vaccuming after the fact takes care of it (on the sporran too).
I have some real rabbit fur standing by for another sporran, so I say go for it....although.....a fur bed spread sounds kinda cool!

yeah but im 6'7'' so mine would have to be freaking huge, but im thinking over the next 2 years i could have enough to make it. very warm im thinking, i have a rabbit sporran at the moment white fur, and it does shed

At 6'7" you should be trapping those pesky little moose around your house. There was another thread discussing rabbit and sporran not so long ago. If I recall rabbit was not recommended as it isn't waterproof. Don't know if racoon is any better but would probably make an awesome full face sporran (with red LED eyes ).

Monster yes, perfect skidder also. I bet he is forestry stewardship concil certified green technology... rabbit fur is great material for all applications. and they keep making more all the time. I think rabbit would make an awesome x kilt winter weight fur side in!
