    Scotland 18 v Ireland 19

I was shopping this afternoon at about 3.00pm, when this bloke came up to me and said out of the blue, "Excuse me, Chief, but what was the score?".

It was a reasonable guess on his part as most Exiles down in south-east England wear the kilt to show allegiance during Rugby Internationals. When I responded, slightly despondently, "18-19 to Ireland" he went "YES!", said "Thanks, mate" and wandered off.

So, I reckon that the kilt is making an impact, even if not quite the one I would like, and even if I wasn't one of the infrequent wearers this Irishman probably assumed I was he still pinged me as someone likely to know the score.

There was me in my Red Robertson for Scotland and my Cymru rugby shirt for Wales.

    Wales lost to Italy 20-23.

Yes, I think that last play just bears out the old adage "take the points" - why on earth did they think they could get a try so close to "no side"? They should have taken the penalty. And why wasn't Bergamasco sent off (and given a ban) after that punch?

It seems that Paterson in the Scotland game had been read the riot act since the disastrous result against Italy, and this time went for the points.

Nevertheless, I think both Scotland and Wales seem to be pulling out of their respective doldrums. I had hoped to see Gavin Henson on the field; but having both Lamonts made up for it a bit. I have a sneaking suspicion that both teams, having reckoned they're not going to get anywhere much in the 6 Nations, are saving it all up for the World Cup in the autumn.

What got me was them asking the ref is there was time anyway and him saying "yes" when the "about ten seconds" turned out to be less.

    ah les perfides Albions...

Yes, so I'm rather hoping that the French give them a thrashing tomorrow in retaliation.

I too have been stopped by total strangers in the past who have wanted to know the score of some sporting game or another which involved Scotland. My response has been along the lines of, "Sorry, but I haven't the faintest idea!" Then, when I added that I have no interest in sport, the enquirer has usually quite obviously had some difficulty in believing me. I cannot for the life of me imagine why!

I have to admit, I'm a big rugby fan so I was gutted at the result. But if nothing else, we played well.
I have to admit, I often get people asking me the football scores and they give you the strangest looks when you say you don't follow it.

I was shopping in town in my kilt and got asked how the Wales game was going - it hadn't even started at that point!

Well that was a bad result today. France lost (badly) rather than England won. So, it's up to Wales next week at Cardiff to uphold the honour of the Celtic nations and deal with the Sasunnaich. Wales v England at the Millennium Stadium should be a real occasion anyway.
