Mishaps, Mistakes, and Scumbags...
I've lost my domain. Through a series of individually innocuous issues, my registrar failed to autorenew caradoc.org, didn't notify me, and now the domain is owned by some domain squatter in Salt Lake City.
If anyone's been referencing any of my pages at caradoc.org, they've been moved to iaincaradoc.org.
Example:
http://www.iaincaradoc.org/~iain/QandDGK.html
Even if I were able to negotiate a buyback, under ICANN's regulations I wouldn't actually retrieve it for sixty days, so I've just moved everything.

So...does that mean that you're the master of your own domain?

Unknown. I've tried contacting them, no answer. Currently the domain is being hosted by GoDaddy - the registrar who failed the autorenew in the first place.
I'm a bit peeved, but I'll be darned if I'll give the squatter the satisfaction of making money on the mess.

I'm sure you can contact godaddy and get your domain back. How long has it been since the autorenew failed?

Autorenew failed - don't you love how these thing that are to make life easier tend to do just the opposite when they do work as thought? Tuff break mate.

GoDaddy's official response was, "Talk to the person who bought it and see if they're willing to negotiate."
It expired in January. That's my fault for not keeping up with things...

Sorry to hear it, Caradoc... That's an excellent example of a proverbial kick in the groin right there...

The same thing happened with my rugby clubs site. So we reregistered under .org rather than .com and eventually whoever bought it in hopes of gaining some cash from us let it go when we gave up on it. Slimballs.
