Umm...let's not go there, please. I only brought up the whole "stars & bars" thing on a point of information.

and they alsa have a few aff the peg...

I had to wait almost twelve weeks for mine to come through which, in a way, indicates that it was made to measure, and it does fit very well (or it did before I put on a lot of weight in recent months!!). On the other hand, the only measurements I was asked to select from drop-down menus - it was an on-line purchase - were for my waist and the length required, which suggests these are off-the rack kilts.

Either way, I am perfectly satisfied with my Saltire tartan kilt - and cannot wait to lose some inches so that I might wear it again!!

What is the standard difference between the waist and the hip measurement on an off the rack kilt? I would hate to spend that money on a kilt that didn't fit.

I believe you could be right there, Chef. It is my guess that the pleats section is pretty much common to all Saltire kilts made - the saltire design itself demands that there can be no variations on that area or it would not work. The kiltmaker might be able to add pleats on either side for larger sizes, but is unable to alter the 'ready made' pleated section without destroying the effect. I really do not know.

It's interesting, and a nice example of what's possible with pleating and patterns, more than just reproducing a tartan pattern.

It may be a bit odd to wear a national flag as a piece of clothing, but I think this is better than Kid Rock cutting a hole in Old Glory and wearing it as a poncho.

I figured you own so many kilts there would be a stock size known as the Hamish For me I find that nothing stock ever seems to fits very well (no experience with the stock kilts though) and that is what has me worried.
