The problem with pre-judging

So, yesterday I was wearing my new MacKinnon kilt and during the course of the day I stopped at a local convenience store to get a large dose of caffeine. Behind me walks in a young man dressed to the nines in red-neck casual (boots, jeans, hat and the requisite frying pan buckle.) As we were standing at the machine, he says "excuse me, mind if I ask you a question?" I thought to myself "Uh-oh, here it comes" expecting the worst.

Instead he stated "I really like your kilt and have been wanting one for a while. Where did you get it and where can I get one??" So I share the various sites that I know about as well as this board. This certainly was not the conversation I was expecting!

Moral of the story, do not pre-judge a person based upon what he is wearing! (I know, I know, I should know better)

Another lesson in the positivity of the kilt.

I have had any number of folks come up to me with similar questions. It's fun to educate them a bit, and they are frequently surprised at the availability of lower-cost kilts. I need to make up some XMTS cards like walkerk has to hand out.

I too, find that more men are encouraged to speak up and ask, when they see another man in a kilt. My earliest feelings were often misgivings of concern for how will I handle this next encounter. More frequently, conversation has found me answering the, "Where to find," and the, "What's the Tartan?" questions.
Very cool. In the past, my judging of people had been subject to my own narrow view.
