Okay, different type of father.
I'll second Cavscout's concerns with the second idea. While I have seen fannypacks/bumbags and backpacks where the load is borne on the hips instead of the shoulders, the weight is being carried behind you.
Combining your sporran idea with a wide kilt belt/back brace might work a little better ...

My plan was not hip straps for the baby sporran, but an X harness made out of nylon straps.
It is probably not a good idea, but it is an idea.

Maybe. Maybe higher. But it would look like a giant sporran.
Would the baby make it a full mask sporran?

I think it's a great idea, Dread - just have to work out the "kicking risk" part of it! (The sporran look concept is great!!!)
