Canadian_Kilt...what do you have for a ride?
[WAY off topic]
Sadly at the moment I am currently without a bike and have been for about 1.5 years. I am hoping to be able to get another one next summer. I have owned 3 bikes. My first was a 1998 Honda CBR600F3 Smokin' Joes edition, which I loved but wanted something a little bigger. The 2nd was a 2001 Honda CBR929RR, which was my favorite of the 3. The last one was a 2003 Ducati Monster 1000Sie Senna. This was a very close 2nd to the 929. I had 2 complaints about it - primarily it was not as comfortable as the 929 despite being more upright. I got pain in my forearms after about 2 hours of riding, and my rear hurt after about 3. I could ride that 929 all day long and the only thing that ever suffered was my knees. If it had even 1 more inch of legroom it would have been perfect. My second complaint was it did not have very decent fuel range. 929 would go 250-275 km on a tank of fuel .. the monster was lucky to get 180 because it has such a small tank.
For my next ride, I'm eyeing several bikes. Honda VFR, CBR1000RR, the Ducati ST3. Most likely is the VFR. Actually I would like to get a used VFR AND either another used 929 or 600F3/F4. I also wouldn't mind a BMWR1100S.

Regarding Jeans - no offence to anyone but riding in jeans is not ever likely to help any one. It's better than shorts by about 5 feet when sliding on concrete. They might protect your skin if you bail going around a corner at 30KPH .. but that's about it. If you don't like wearing leathers (and I admit they can be cumbersome), google up a pair of Draggin Jeans. They're jeans with kevlar woven in and some padding in the joints. They look and wear like jeans but will still offer decent protection in a crash.

Nice selection of past bikes, CK! I'm not a big fan of sport bikes, but I always drool every time I see or hear a Ducati.
As for wearing jeans, you're right. They won't really protect you in a fall. However, I'm willing to take that risk. My riding style is very laid back and slow most of the time. On the highway I'll toss on a pair of chaps for a bit more protection.

I'm sorry, but I think that advice is a bit irresponsible.

Ever ride a ZRX1200R?

I've put several 900 mile days in on mine and it's comfy. Will give you what you liked about the other bikes performance wise too, but at a lower RPM. If you're ever in my area, drop me a line, you can take if for a spin. Well, that is if Lynn isn't out on it. I swear she puts more miles on my bike than hers.
Draggin Jeans are awsome. Lynn and I both wear them.

Pretty similar to what I had before. I do enjoy naked bikes quite a lot. Visually they are my favorite type. Admittedly, I am not a big Kawasaki fan. I am really a Honda guy through and through.
I have also thought about something a bit bigger - A Suzuki Hayabusa or Kawi ZX-14. I have a couple friends with Hayabusas and they swear it's the best combination of strong performance, good handling and long distance comfort.
Of course being a Honda guy I'm kind of hoping they'll finally remodel the CBR1100XX ..

I have worn my kilt to ride, it's not safe or easy but I've done it. I can't recomend it but if your going to find out for yourself at least be really careful. You want to keep all those intimate parts you were born with functioning well. I wear a pair of tour master pants over the top of my kilt when I want to ride somewhere kilted and I don't want to have to change when I get there. The Tourmaster pants have a full length zipper up the leg which allows me to tug down the kilt to keep the pleats from bunching up and I get one size larger than I would wear over jeans in order to have enough room in the thighs and seat. This works best with a P-V kilt or a Utilikilt original, it's almost impossible with a Utilikilt Workman and I wouldn't want to see what it would do to a wool tank.

Actually, tests have shown that a new pair of denim jeans have an amazingly good abrasion resistance but they lose it as they are washed and become softer. The Draggin Jeans are an awsome product. They look kind of like carpenter jeans with double thickness at knees and seat but without all the utility loops and pockets. Harley-Davidson just came out with their own version but the sizing is a bit weird so if the Draggin Jeans don't fit you quite right check your local H-D dealer.
