Advice on contemporary/work kilts..
I'm in the market for a working style kilt that is comfortable and very durable. I really, really like the look of RKilt's hemp kilt, but wouldn't wear a while kilt and wouldn't wear a black kilt to anything but a funeral. ( Nothing against people wearing black kilts, it's just a superstition I was brought up with.)
I also like the Corduroy kilts from UnionKilts.
At the moment I really don't have the money to splash out on a custom kilt, and I'm pretty short (5'4") so I have to get off the rack kilts altered.
What I'm looking for is advice on where I can get a decent, cheap and durable work kilt to tide me over until after the wedding when I have some disposable income.
Anyone have any ideas? is Ebay at all feasible?
Thanks for your help, guys.

Try MacHummel at Canadian Casual Kilts custom and well made kilts in pv at very reasonable prices. The £ to $Cdn today is very much in favour to you. You could get a five yard for under a hundred quid. denim or canvas for even less. Having seen a number of his kilts personally I can vouch for the quality. Just order fast because when my Maple Leaf tartan finally comes in, Pete will be my kit maker exclusively.

Oh and Arlen, black kilts aren't just for funerals anymore!
I think every kiltie should have a black kilt in their closet (wardrobe). They don't need to be formal and can be dressed down considerably. In a sea of tartan they can really stand out.

I agree with Dread on the AK. Get the putty (I think its called Khaki on the site now). The material is pretty rugged

Thanks for this.
Everyone's been really great and helpful and I've got a good list of sites going now to build up my collection.

I'm thinking of getting a few. A khaki, an olive and a dark brown. Just waiting for the funds to even out.

Thanks. I'll keep that one in mind. The colour is lovely.
