Leaving New Mexico but for where?

I'll put in a plug for the Tampa Bay area. Beautiful weather most of the year. Summers can get hot, but we rarely get over 90. Although coming from NM, the humidity anywhere in the southeast might be a bit of a transition.

If I could live anywhere in the US I think I'd chose Virginia. Never been there, but would like to see it before I die.

Of course you could move back and be an old, now new again neighbor in Lewisville, TX. I saw you used to live off Old Orchard. I'm off Garden Ridge & Main. Plenty of kilted neighbors too. Mkmound, Rowdyred, me, scmx5driver, etc. Last year we didn't see more than a few days over a 100, and I was in shorts for Christmas. Just a thought. Also DFW is currently in a buyers market.

If it weren't for family locally I would move back to the Carolinas right away. I spent 3 years in NC and loved the weather and the mild change of seasons. Education is always a concern in the south but the suburban schools around Raleigh generally had good reviews and the job market was thriving 10 years ago ( no idea about now). Less than 2 hours to the beaches or the mountains and lots of golfing. A good size city for cultural stuff and right in the loop of NC State, UNC and Duke if the kids are college bound. Definitely investigate North Carolina.

I now live about two hours east of Raleigh near the coast and used to live about one hour north of Raleigh. I echo all ckelly's comments, especially about higher ed - both my kids graduated from North Carolina State. And lots of Highland Games in the State!!!

I love living in BC, but it is certainly not as perfect as some of these surveys would have you believe.

I lived in Columbus Ga for 3 years and loved it, though it get a little humid, north Ga is a lot more mild i hear, pretty area too.

Thanks for the info and keep it comming..... for more details we considered AK just long enough to dismiss it due to rapid changes in air pressure that would play hob with my wife's RA to say nothing of the winter and cabin fever factor!!! I will have her review this thread...again thanks

I used to live in Taos NM, there is alot of down side to NM
we left there to go back to Va.
after living many years living west of the great divide in Ut. Alaska. and NM it was hard to live back East again so we returned to UT.

I plan to escape from Utah this summergoing to move somewhere that Adulthood is legal
After much looking and thinking we have settled on the Pacific Norhtwest

I'll be house hunting this week in NW Washington

How about the San Francisco Bay Area here in California.

It has it all, great schools, culture, diversity, fairly short drives to the beach or mountains. Our climate gives us fairly mild winters and summers. It's a wonderful place to live.

As for housing prices...err...um...gee...

So how about Tampa?

Temp usually gets to about 90 in the summer, and only a month or two max where it can get below 0. (January and February.)

Schools are pretty good. Seen better, but it isn't bad.

As for prices, not sure off the top o' me head.
