    Easter Morning

The Mrs. and I at our Episcopal church after Easter service this morning: I in my 16 oz. Maple Leaf tartan (it was too cold for any of my lighter kilts this morning) and charcoal grey argyll jacket. My wife is wearing her Maple Leaf spring weight scarf to match.

    Happy Easter, all.

You two look lovely. Appropriately dressed for high mass.

I think I will have to get my wife a some tartan wear (scarf, etc.) I don't anything looks quite as sharp a couple who coordinates with out looking matchy-matchy, which by the way you two accomplished nicely.

That Maple Leaf is a gorgeous tartan and the muted green hose works nicely. Your wife has a lovely smile. Looks like it was a good day.

    Scott,

You know, I muted the green of those hose myself. They were originally lovet green, but I hand-washed them briefly in a color-remover, and they came out as a great not-quite-military-olive-green which exactly matches the color on the maple leaf tartan where the green and yellow overlap. I think it works for the kilt better than either bottle or lovet green does.

Hmmm, I have a pair of hose that I don't use because the color is a bit too saturated. Mind if I ask what you used? Was it just a mild chlorine bleach solution?

    Scott,

After doing some research on the difficulties of fooling with the color of wools, I settled on trying RIT color remover (see here http://www.walgreens.com/store/produ...=0&id=prod3817) and it worked like a charm. It didn't take long, either: just a minute or two of stirring the hose in a solution of the color remover and hot water. Don't confuse RIT color remover with the RIT whitener, though, as the later is effectively a full bleaching. The purpose of the color remover is exactly ours: to lighten the color. The one caution I would add was that the color also drifted a bit, and ended up with something that was more yellowish than I expected, but fortuitiously so. I have no idea what kind of color changes might happen with blues or reds.

Good luck if you try it.
