Dread if this is such a risk, then may I suggest that you ready yourself for an eventual out-ing. People may notice if you are leaving at a regular schedule, or if you start showing up with new stuff all the time, even more expensive food! If where you live you are surrounded by people in the same situation how do you think they'll react to someone trying to better their situation? Take the job, be as discreet as possible but prepare. Use your current situation of low rent to your benefit but don't abuse it, as soon as your head remains above water I suggest you move on.

You are so right. I think my wife wants out too, even though she hasn't said much. Our apartment is nice enough... 2 bedrooms, a long hall, it is more than decent. That said, I want out. Eventually. I want room to work. A sewing room maybe. Place to be able to store goods.

I think that if I can somehow swing my self in to the kind of life where I spend half my time hard at work making stuff, and the other half hanging out at ren fairs maybe selling that stuff, I think I'd be pretty happy. Maybe a nice little Volkswagen van... Or maybe a Honda Element. Something that could be lived out of.

Thinking about something like that makes me incredibly happy for some odd reason.

Going up to North Carolina with MacWage caused a great deal of painful wanderlust to be rekindled in my bones. I want to be able to go places again and see stuff. I just sort of gave up and gave in and allowed my self to be stuck.

No more. I want out. Somehow. Even if I don't know how. I want to be back on the road again somehow. I don't want to be rich or anything like that. I just want to eat well, have a few nice drinks here and there, and maybe once in a while go to sleep and wake up in a new place again.

Not so much to ask for really.

Sounds like a sweet deal. Just please, please be prepared. Maybe not even grace our kiltmakers with a new kilt order until you have a safety buffer stashed away.

The Freedom Kilt was bought with the idea that I might try to get a job. I needed something good looking. If I have to, I'll buy a couple of Amerikilts.

But you are correct. Everything is going to be done with escape in mind. First up, getting the license and getting a car, as it is probably the single most important thing I can do.

X-Kilts! I think you meant to say X-Kilts. A car, insurance and all? That's a major expense, even used, you sure?

    Well, escape purposes.

I've been turned down for a lot of jobs for the lack of transportation. By my own somewhat fractured logic, if I can get a car, then I can have a job. Somewhere. Even if it is just delivering pizza or something to that effect. Right? Having a job of some kind means money, which turns in to food, shelter, etc.

    Whatever opens doors. Right?

    That's SCARY Dread,

There have been times when I had to get out the pencil and figure out just how much I can afford to make. If you can hang onto the job with that thought for 6 months or so, that will be the start of a resume.

Sucks this trying to get started upwards.

The single thing I found is when I don't keep my Dearly Beloved involved, even when things work out, they don't work out!

    Best,
    Greg

    LordKiltClad, are you free?

Dread, everyone else has given you some excellent advice, so all I will add is when you are feeling nervous, drink MASSIVE amounts of Woodchuck! We're talking gallons! Soon, you will no longer feel nervous...int: int: int: int: int: int: int: int: int: int:

Get your license, then go to the Salvation Army or Goodwill, and explain your situation as to a car....they will either give you one or at very low cost...at least that will be a start!
