Treating Myself This Week

Maybe it was the cool snap. But, for whatever reason I decided to wear my hand sewn traditional kilts to work all week this week.

I work four ten hour days (okay, two tens, an eleven and a nine). Tuesday wore my Cameron Red and Black, Wednesday my Scott Red Modern, Thursday my Isle of Skye, and today my Royal Air Force kilt.

Tell you what, I wallowed in it. Really felt spiffy to wear the heavy wool kilts. Maybe doesn't sound like a big deal, but I've never done it before. Usually mix my types of kilts up during the week.

This week it was top-of-the-line...luxury...maximum pleat swing...

Dang it, it just felt GOOOOOOD!

A man should treat himself to sensual pleasures like a good kilt from time to time.....repeatedly.....I think maybe Clint Eastwood, or Lee Marvin, or Steve McQueen said that...maybe...or someone like them....Charles Bronson maybe....?

I know what you mean Ron. I am usually in a USAK or my X-Kilt from Alan, but it does feel good to strap on some serious wool! Got my eye on one of the SWK HW USMC Box pleat kilts. Just trying to come up with a reason to wear it. Never served myself, but my paternal grandfather was in the Navy, WWII and Korea I believe. Oldest uncle on my Dad's side was Air Force, and wife's father is retired Army CWO. Got the USKA Army tartan to honor him, and planning on the Air force tartan, and a Navy one in the next few months to honor the other ancestors. Just no jarheads that I have found so far. I know I can wear it to honor those who have served (such as yourself), or are serving, but I wanted a closer tie. Oh well, might have to just go for it.

So Ron, maybe you should focus the next 25 kilts on what makes you feel like this. Go for the handsewn tanks, cousin, and de'il taek the rest.

It's a Kilt. Its Wool. what other reasons do you need?

What Turpin said. If you have a another reason, houner, rememberance, etc, so much the better, but don't let that stop you. The leatherneck tartan is good looking, so go for it.

if one gets a wool kilt, would it be sacrilegious to get it lined?
i tend to react to wool so to add a lining much like in a SWK it would seem to me that the problem would be side stepped.

All modern wool kilts have a lining like that.

I don't have more than the common reaction to wool, but I do wear either boxer shorts (at work) or one of them underkilts (slip) when not working just to add to the life of the kilt by keeping it a tad cleaner.

Think the company that made underkilts is gone or in disarray. Imagine there are stores or websites where one can buy cotton half slips. My original three black underkilts are still working fine for me.

Something like that would insulate you well from the wool and still allow you to enjoy your freedom.

if you don't want to go the underkilt or boxers route, I'd highly recommend a Freedom Kilts kilt shirt, they are built with extra long tails (think mid-thigh) which will also help protect your expensive wool from you, and your sensitive skin from scratchy wool. I also can't think of a better accessory than a very well tailored shirt to go with a heavy tank of a kilt.
