You know, if you are wanting a tartan that needs to be custom woven, but don't want to spend a fortune, you might really want to consider a 4 yard box pleated kilt.
I don't mean to sound like I'm advertising for myself, but I do get a lot of interest in my kilts from folks who want tartans not normally available. Having a 4 yard kilt rather than an 8 yard kilt cuts the cost of the cloth in half.
My standard price for an average sized man in a custom woven tartan is $480. That's less than what you'll pay for a nice quality 8 yard kilt in a readily avaialbe tartan. And this is for heavy weight worsted wool kilting cloth woven in Scotland.
If you are interested, link's in the sig file. I'll be glad to help.

Advertise away Matt. I was going to say that Matt, Barb, Rocky, and a few others can likely have the tartan woven for one kilt for less than you have been quoted. Be sure to also check the kiltstore link up top, as they have access to some pretty rare tartans.
By the way, the kilt looks like Fraser Hunting Ancient to me.
