    In the states you can legally make your own moonshine from your own still if you want to as long as you pay the tax on what you sell from it. The problem that the moonshiners had with the G-Men was that they didn't give Uncle Sugar his cut.

    The oak casks used to mature Scotch whisky have been used previously for maturing Bourbon (mainly) or other spirits, such as sherry or wine.
    Balvenie Doublewood is aged 12 years; first in a whisky cask, then in a sherry cask; lovely stuff!

    You did not answer my query fast enough in the pub, so I got what I needed here. If you read the initial question, I am only referring to the type of wood, for reasons of it possibly causing my 2 month battle with severe allergies.
