    Derek - thank you for "plonker". It reminded me both of the time I lived in the UK and the fact that the UK and USA truly are two countries "separated by a common language".

    Basically this spelling is only used to refer to old regiments such as the Royal Welch Fusiliers, as a surname or reneging on a bet.

    Couldn't find "plonker" in my Welsh dictionary and that's not surprising as Welsh can't come up with a word to cover every bit of English slang and doesn't constantly evolve the way English does.

    But when it doesn't have an equivalent it uses the English word and gives it a Welsh spelling such as tacsi or ambwlans. So I guess the Welsh spelling would be ploncr
