Need advice:Sport kilt –vs- Still Water standard weight

I'll agree, SWK is the way to go. And don't forget that Sportkilt still has an elastic waistband even with the works.

The SWK standard and heavyweights are both good. I love my Nightstalker in standard, but I have to say the HW's are very nice. I have the weathered Lamont and green shadow tartan. I also have a black shadow HW, but it is an earlier model that was in acrylic.

Standard Sport kilts are great..for what they are intended for....casual sportwear, highland games, apre sports, kicking around in, etc.
Stillwater dress up much better! Very Comparable in price too.

i agree completely, i would never dream of wearing my sport kilt to a formal event, they dont always tend to keep the pleats, and the elastic band tends to bring it down a notch.

I wear my sportkilt every day, but as a kick around the house kilt. I dont wear it out.

Stillwater is outfitting my entire wedding however, so I think that speaks for itself.

Besides, the Stillwater is cheaper, the shipping is WAY faster, and the customer service is top notch, bar none. So far I have had very bad luck with Sportkilt regarding all three of those things.

Buy the hose and dress shirt if you can afford them, you'll get plenty more use from them. I would advise a Prince Charlie for a wedding if you want a true formal look.

I know what Brian is saying but for me for a wedding in the US unless it is VERY formal or VERY Scottish I'd go with the Argyll. I love the look of the PC but unless the other guests are going to be in tuxes you'd be over-dressing.

I agree with both of you. I am getting married in Sept and for that I am wearing a PC. But for attending other weddings, I am trying to keep it a little less formal. I would like it to be dressy but not over done.

Side note Brian, I own the hose and shirt, I should have been more clear in my post. I will just be renting the jacket.

SWKilts are great. I'd say go for either the standard, or the HW. I've got both. I like my SWK Nightstalker standard, but because it's acrylic I don't think it'd stand up to heavy outdoor use. I use it for going to both low key events, and more serious dress up type events. No problem for what you're planning. My SWK HW Black Watch is a little heavier, and I believe wears better. It is more durable too. It has become my go to day kilt. If a HW is available it's a better choice, but don't worry about a standard, they're quality too.

And comparing it to a NeoKilt, I understand why the SportKilt is considered lightwieght, 'casual' wear.

I was tempted to add a SWK to my collection, but, and this is neither a judgement nor a request for assistance, I have problems accessing the website that his e-commerce provider needs to fix. SWK knows the problem.
