i've been happy with Gold Bond powder for our hot-humid summers. but wow, all the rave reviews of Body Glide makes me want to try some right now. i should be able to find it easily, there are 3 R.E.I. stores around me.

I think Body Glide may be the thing. I recall from my days in bringing up the babies that we were told absolutely do not to use talcum on the babies, that it was simply bad for their little skin.
Any pediatricians or family medicine physicians out there (or anyone else who actually knows)?

our pediatrician said to avoid its use on babies because the dust from it can get into their lung and cause problems (especially because when it is applied the baby is usually lying down). he said if it wasn't for that, it would be fine to use.

I have been using unscented stick anti-persperant myself . . . but I may try this body glide of which you speak . . .
As for the folks who don't need to use, I have always had an issue, even pre-kilted, especially back before you could get long-legged athletic shorts. My thighs are simply too massive. Might have something to do with the bulk they need to support . . .

I go ahead and buy the larger size from this place
http://www.ultrafit-endurance.com/bodyglide.html
most only carry the small sticks
I also picked up a "sample" stick at an adventure race that is about 1" tall, perfect for the sporran.

I was using Body Glide as well when I first wore my kilt. I ended up losing a great deal of weight (which is why I no longer have a kilt) and did not need it anymore. I suppose once I get my new tank, I'll have to reassess the situation. It sure worked when I needed it, though.

Wow, I had no clue that people from around the world were taking similar measures while in a kilt. Like i said before though, i'm going to have to purchase some of this body glide that everyone keeps raving about. The powder's that we use only last about an hour or two, so we're constantly "powdering our noses" all night long.
I'll have to pass the word to my brethren out here, because there's no way that i'm going to share my bodyglide. That just sounds wrong in so many ways.

I use cornstartch myself.
Cheap and not bad for you as it doesn't actually clog your pores.

Ditto.
Backpacking, yardwork, whatever... no chafing. Must be my bird-legs.
The only "inconvenience" I suffer is the tickling feeling as rivulets of sweat run down my legs. I've often thought powder (or a bifurcated cotton undergarment ) might help, but "costs" outweigh other "benefits."
