My Kilt at a "Southern Wedding"
A good friend of mine invited me to his wedding this past Sunday 6 May. He is an Army buddy, that came back from Afghanistan, and is redeploying to Iraq in August. I was really happy for him so my wife and I dressed up. I wore my PSD: Operation Iraqi Freedom Tartan, and drove the two hours to a small town in Western Virginia (not WV). I missed the wedding but went to the reception and realized I was a bit over dressed. One of the brides maids was a bit full figured, and wearing a pink t-shirt that said "diet Cherry Coke" and was two sizes to small. Most of the men had on jeans, but some had shirts with collars. Most did not. Only one person had a black tank top with the matching long neck Budweiser. When I walked in with my full dress Kilt, it was a bit awkward. I received many positive comments on the kilt, and one person even said I was the best dressed person there. The minister has a Clergy tartan neck tie, and after talking with me is thinking about getting a kilt for special occassions.

Good thing your not shy, eh Jay?

Good for you. IMHO you honored the couple by taking the time and effort to dress up.

Situation like that, you say, 'excuse me,' step outside and go to the car and strip down to your wife-beater and kilt, go back in and have a good time!

I'm reminded of the time I attended a shipmate's wedding in South-Central LA. Not only was I the only one wearing a tie, I was the only melanin-challenged individual there.
I hope you had a great time, and that your friend's mariage survives the riggors of the service.

Indeed. The bride will have that special memory which will enhance her recollections in her reminiscences of her wedding day.

Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

LMAO! That's too funny. I had a Southern wedding as well, but it wasn't quite that bad. Most people were dressed in their "after church clothes." My Uncle called me about a week ahead of time and ask me if he could wear his kilt to the wedding. It was a shock to many, but everyone loved it.
We got married at my Mother- in- Law's house out in the country. We were married on July 4th (so I wouldn't forget the date). It was catered by the Red Hot Porkers bbq team. Everyone likes bbq, right?
I was perfectly fine until they started setting up rows of chairs. I said to my mother in law, "Elaine, is the bottle of champagne in the fridge?" She said, "Yeah, let me get you a glass." I said, "No no, just bring me the bottle." I was tipsy at my own wedding and lost my shoes (flip flops), so I was married barefoot.
